Rainforest Retreat
We had a wonderful trip to Hawaii and it all started here! Thank you Gary for taking us diving in great locales. As beginner divers, we really appreciated all of Gary's patience and help! He had extra equipment that we used, took his jeep down with us every day, and provided tanks and weights. Our teenage son really enjoyed talking to Gary about music. We are so glad that we stayed here and received an insider's guide to Hawaii's diving and snorkeling. The cottage itself is spacious, clean, secluded and has a wonderful lanai to sit out on and eat meals or just relax. We'll definitely stay here again if we come back. Thank you again, Gary and Susan for being such thoughtful hosts and making our vacation so memorable.

Ocean Lovers Dream Vacation
Our family of 4 stayed at Su Gar Cottage for a few days. We had a fantastic time exploring the ocean with Garry. He showed us the best snorkeling places and had we been into Scuba Diving he would have done that too. The house itself is totally set up with a great screened-in Lanai to spend most moments. There was a BBQ for the fresh fish we bought at a roadside stand. We had a blast and would recommend it to anyone who has plans on exploring the ocean. The tree frogs were unbelievable and greeted us every night and lulled us to sleep. The house and surroundings were very peaceful and quiet.

Love Hawaii, California

My family of 4 and I stayedvat the Sugar Cottage II for a total of 9 nights. It is a fantastic place to stay. Garry is a great person who is available and very helpful! We are not divers so Garry took us snorkeling at Two Step and we had an awesome time. Garry lent us snorkeling gear and beach equipment through our stay. We bought groceries and saved a lot on eating out by cooking at the cottage daily. We loved the geckos and set out fruit for them on the awesome lanais. Coqui frogs put us to sleep nightly.

Hawaii 5-O getaway
This is the 4th time we have stayed with Garry and Susan. We love the Papa Bay Area. There is fantastic flora and fauna on the premises and a variety of birds, frogs and geckos. It is semi secluded with a symphony of birdsong and sounds from other various inhabitants. We returned to Sugar Cottage to commemorate my passage into the "Golden Age". Garry and Susan were very accommodating and helped make the transition very present. I highly recommend staying with Susan and Garry if you have a Sense of Adventure. Garry will do his best to make your diving or snorkeling experience memorable ( in a good way)! If you have been diving on the Big Island before..... hook up with Garry and he can show you a few new places to dive and some of his favorite critters/fishes to look at. It's a great place to unwind, relax and have a blast!

SuGar Cottage: Sweet!
I can recommend staying at Garry and Sue's place without any reservations. They are great people who will make you feel very welcome. Garry enjoys showing guests around, taking them scuba diving or snorkeling. The cottage itself is very comfortable. It is, however, a long, windy 45-minute drive from from Kona, so buy your food and other necessities in Kona. There's a Costco, Target and Safeway in town. Pick up a cheap cooler or two. Figure out how many breakfasts, lunches, dinners you'll have before you plan to be in Kona again, and pick it all up before driving out to Garry's. The cottage has paper towels, utensils, plates, etc. You might want to pick up salt and pepper, vinegar or sauces. You'll be set, then, to hang out and bop around without worrying about taking that long drive to Kona again. Say hey to the geckos for me! They're very cool little visitors.

Fun Location Near Great Beaches
Enjoyed our three days at the Sugar Cottage. Great snorkeling trip with Garry as our guide. He provided all the equipment and expertise needed. Rustic jungle like setting. Lots of songbirds to listen too and watch.

Great dive vacation spot
We stayed in the 2 bedroom home and had the opportunity to dive with Garry. He is a true southern gentleman and great host. While the home is rustic it had everything we needed for a great dive vacation. IF YOU ARE A DIVER THIS IS THE PLACE TO STAY.

Dive with Dolphins
This property provides easy shore access to multiple local dive sites. These accommodations provide all of the basic amenities, but the real value is the close proximity to Ho'okena (for the two-step dive site), Miloli'i, South Point (for cliff diving and access to Green Sand Beach), Punalu'u (for the black sand and turtle sightings), Nahalehu (for the scenery). Gary's diving expertise is excellent, and for me resulted in a half-day of diving with dozens of resident spinner dolphins. Amazing.
